Out/Back Run

So i'm guessing that at one point in time or another we have found ourselves in a race where we just died out or lost the energey to keep going. More often than not this is a result of poor pacing.  Pacing is a critical element of running for sure. The good news is is that the out\back run is the perfect workout to resolve this problem.

Primarly speaking the objective of the out\back run is to have a consistent flow of pace during the race. It works great because  it can be used for pretty much anyone at any skill level. To start off you want to do a good ten minute jog to get warmed up.  As for the workout itself just run fifteen minutes out (take some recovery time depending on your skill level)  then do your route backwards in the same amount of time or faster.

The "back" part of the workout is the most critical part of the workout. Anyone can just go out and run for fifteen minutes but retracing the route in a timely mannor takes displine. It takes focuse. But I belive in you:YOU CAN DO IT!!  To start off on the right foot with this workout I would do it 2-3 times a week.

The best part of the workout is that you can varie it to accomplish different things. For instance if you are trying to get faster at the end of your races then you can go out for twenty-one minutes and try to make it back in ninteen minutes. This is effective because of the fact that you are training your body to  gradually increase speed in a more displined and incremental way.

Now that you have this valuable information: Go out and run and accomplish your goals!!!
