Have you ever gone on a run where you probably should have turned around right away. I was once had encounter of that nature. The only difference between me and most people is I went through it. On that cold winters day the weather was rather inclement to say the least. It was the only time that I have gone for a run and experienced rain, sleet and hail. If it was not hail then it was the strong gust of wind blowing in my face.
To start off the day I made the mistake of not checking the weather. To this day it is hard to put forth an answer to the question ,"Was this a good decision?". I say this because of the fact that on one hand it was cold uncomfortable weather that is no where near ideal for running. It could have posed a risk to my health due to the elements (I am completely fine). A risk to my health would have negative consequences for the upcoming track season. On the other hand it was the psychological benefits that I gained from doing this crazy run. I learned how to take adversity head on. I proved to myself that I could find the light at the end of the tunnel. I proved myself to be tough not only physically but mentally as well.
To conclude I guess if I were to have to answer the "question" today I probably would choose not to. Some things should just be I suppose. The positives and the negatives all balance themselves out at the end of day. Each item serves it purpose. Running is about toughness mentally and really just finding the light at the end of the tunnel. Going that extra mile. To keep going at that fast pace.
Keep on Running Everyone!
